Mayor’s Arts Awards

For the past six years, the City of Ventura has sponsored the Mayor’s Arts Awards, giving tribute to a number of people making a difference in the arts here.  This year, a diverse group of six, aged twenty-something to octogenarian, earned the nod.  The party was held Thursday night at the Museum of Ventura County’s new Bud Smith Pavillion.  About a hundred people came out to celebrate the arts in general and the recipients in particular.  It’s nice when a group of creative types get together.

Mayor Fulton opened with a few remarks on the importance of art in the community and life, followed by a challenge everyone in attendance to buy at least on piece of local original art before the end of the year.  By a show of hands, many others were up for the challenge as well.

Ventura is a city that puts a lot of stock behind trying to help the artist community….even in tough economic times.  For that, we thank you.
