Food Fight

Local farmer Phil McGrath is the target of ire from chef’s from LA’s westside on the cover Sunday’s LA Times.  Seems as though some haute restaurant cooks who visit the Wednesday Farmer’s Market in Santa Monica want to buy their produce on the fly but supplies run out due to call in orders from wholesalers.   I understand the chef’s point –  they like the meandering finds that come from  a local market that has ever changing, season foods – I see too the grower’s need to make the trip pencil and to not bring too much product only to cart it back home if buyers are not to be had.  Says McGrath “Look, I don’t want to make anybody mad, but is it so hard to pick up the phone?”http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-market9mar09,0,4923298.story
